Why Greens PLUS?
Quite simply, Greens PLUS contains some of the most nutritious foods on the planet. Green powders are an excellent means of getting additional micronutrients missing from the diet in one easy serving. Popularity of green powders has soared in recent years due to the fact that they have been associated especially with promotion of higher energy levels and metabolism and improved gut health and immunity. In addition, nutrients in standard multivitamins are often processed or artificial and are not recognized or absorbed from the gut in the same manner as food. Greens PLUS, derived from high quality organic super foods are more easily absorbed than multivitamins.
The green color is produced by chlorophyll, the pigment that gives plants their green color. Chemically similar to hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying molecule in red blood cells, chlorophyll plays a key role in photosynthesis. (Chlorophyllin is the water-soluble derivative of chlorophyll.) Wheat grass and barley grass, two of the best sources of chlorophyll are both featured in this organic green “phyto foods” formula.
Chlorophyll from wheatgrass may be helpful in treating hemoglobin deficiency disorders such as certain anemias, including thalassemia.
Chlorophyll may also help prevent and slow growth of certain cancers. (Nagini, et al: Chemopreventative Potential of Chlorphyllin: A Review of the Mechanisms of Action and Molecular Targets, Nutrition and Cancer, 67:2, 203-211, 2015)
Ingredients:
CHLORELLA – Green freshwater microalgae high in iron, protein, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and chlorophyll content. It may have antioxidative properties.
COLON CLEANERS (Four) – 1. Apple pectin, 2. Brown rice germ and bran, 3. Barley malt, and 4. Chlorophyll together help maintain intestinal balance while cleansing and deodorizing the gastrointestinal tract with soluble and insoluble fibers.
EUROPEAN BILBERRY EXTRACT (Vaccinium myrtillus)- Known as European blueberries bilberries are a source of fiber, manganese and Vitamins C and K. They also a rich source of antioxidants (anthocyanins). Bilberry flavonoid extract has been shown to have beneficial effects on vision, peripheral circulation and memory in older adults. Bilberries may also stimulate insulin secretion and lower blood glucose levels and may lower LDL (bad) and increase HDL (good) cholesterol.
GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT (24% flavone glycosides) – Ginkgo, native to China, improves memory and cognitive function and some studies have shown benefit with memory in dementia syndromes. Gingko also reduces inflammation in various conditions and increases blood flow through arterial dilation, thereby decreasing the symptoms of peripheral vascular disease.
GRAPE SEED EXTRACT – A potent source of antioxidants (phenolic acids, anthocyanins, flavonoids and oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes) derived from the pulverized seeds of red wine grapes, this extract may be beneficial in hypertension, chronic venous insufficiency, and high cholesterol. Due to its high antioxidant content, grape seed extract can help protect against oxidative stress, inflammation, tissue damage.
GREEN TEA EXTRACT – From the dried leaves, leaf buds, and stems of the Camellia sinensis plant. Green teas are not fermented and are high in polyphenols, important molecules that may prevent swelling and inflammation. Antioxidants in green tea have been shown to decrease atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries), endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining), Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides), high blood pressure, and ovarian cancer.
HAWAIIAN SPIRULINA – Harvested off the pristine coast of Kona, Hawaii, spirulina is a blue-green algae. It is considered a “superfood” because it is an all-in-one source of nutrients (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, copper, iron and magnesium) and is especially high in protein. Spirulina contains phycocyanin, the blue-green pigment and a protein which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and antioxidant effects. It also has been shown to decrease serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
HYDROPONICALLY GROWN WHEAT SPROUTS – Sprouted (3-5 days) whole grain seeds. The germ of the wheat grain contains the concentrated oils and nutriets needed for the grain to burst out into a sprout. The plant starch, vitamins and minerals become more available through the sprouting process. The sprouting also provides fiber and antioxidants to the diet. (Sprouts are low in calories, fat and sodium.)
JUICE POWDERS (ALFALFA, BARLEY, RED BEET, AND WHEAT GRASS) – Juice powders are rich in natural Vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium magnesium, and calcium. They contain great amounts of chlorophyll and the enzyme Super Oxide Dismulase (SOD), the first line of defense against reactive oxygen species, which may have general anti-inflammatory effects.
LECITHIN – Lecithin is a fat critical for cellular function and is converted into acetylcholine a ubiquitous neurotransmitter (transmitter of nerve impulses). Lecithin decreases high serum cholesterol and may have benefit in the mania phase of bipolar affective disorder.
MILK THISTLE EXTRACT (Silymarin) – is a flowering herb native to the Mediterranean and is related to the daisy and ragweed family. Silymarin is an antioxidant derived from the milk thistle seeds that has traditionally been used for liver and gall bladder disorders. While there is insufficient evidence that silymarin helps liver disease, it seems to have beneficial effects in diabetes (decreased blood glucose and LDL cholesterol levels).
PANAX GINSENG (KOREAN GINSENG ROOT POWDER) – Considered an “adaptogen,” natural substances (ginsenosides and panaxosides) which promote resistance to stress. Limited data suggest that panax ginseng may be effective in erectile dysfunction, in stimulation sexual arousal, reduction of risk of cold and flu infections, and improving cognitive function.
PROBIOTIC CULTURE (Dairy-free) – Containing 2.5 billion dairy-free “gut friendly” per serving, these bacteria are cultured on brown rice. As they augment the microbiome, they help digest foods as well as help absorb vitamins and minerals. Healthy prebiotics and probiotics may modulate serum glucose and insulin levels. Clinical studies have demonstrated a reduction of cholesterol levels after supplementation with probiotic cultures.
ROYAL JELLY 5%/MONTANA BEE POLLEN – Royal jelly contains nine glycoproteins, two fatty acids, as many as eight different B vitamins, and trace minerals. Limited human research has shown reduction of elevated serum cholesterol and multiple animal studies have shown increased insulin sensitivity and improved blood sugar control. Bee pollen is nutritious and limited data suggest benefits in reducing side effects in radiation therapy, premenstrual syndrome symptoms and prostate disease (chronic prostatitis and prostatic hypertrophy).
